China’s first purpose-built maritime space launch command and telemetry vessel, the Dongfang Hengyuan, has recently been successfully launched. This high-end marine asset, custom-designed for the full lifecycle of maritime space launch missions, has lifted China’s maritime support capabilities for commercial aerospace to a new height. Powering this cutting-edge vessel is its core "heart" — four main propulsion units independently developed by CSSC Henan Diesel Engine Industry Co., Ltd. (CSSC HDE), a leading enterprise based in Luoyang.

Designed and constructed under the auspices of Harbin Engineering University, the Dongfang Hengyuan is a true innovation pioneered in China. To meet the stringent operational demands of maritime space launches, the vessel is equipped with an all-electric drive system paired with dual conventional shaft propellers, as well as DP-2 dynamic positioning technology. This configuration enables high-precision stationary positioning in complex marine conditions, delivering a stable operational platform for space launch command and telemetry work — an indispensable technical safeguard for successful maritime launch missions.

The vessel’s primary power comes from four main propulsion units engineered by CSSC HDE.
